The Gift of Discernment
Updated: Jun 19, 2022
Discernment- meaning to separate or divide; The ability to perceive things that are obscure.
-Diakrisi is the Greek word for Discernment.
-This gift is something that cannot be taught but is given by the Holy Spirit. Discernment in the body of Christ is being able to determine if the spirit behind man is true or false.
-1 John 4:1 NLT, "Do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God" means that we shouldn't believe everything we hear just because someone says it's a message from God. There are many ways to test teachers to see if their message is truly from the Lord. One is to check to see if their words match what God says in the Bible. Other tests include their commitment to the body of believers (1 John 2:19), their lifestyles (1 John 3:23-24), and the fruit of their ministries (1 John 4:6). But the most important test of all, says John, is what they believe about Christ."
-John 10:27, "My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."
Other passages to read:
- 1 Kings 22: 19-23
- 2 Chronicles 18: 18-22
- Jeremiah 23: 16-22
-This is being spoken about because these are perilous times where it is needed to discern the spirit behind man. This is so the people of God won't be lead astray.
-Remember to fast and pray.
