The Significance of The Blood of Jesus
-The Hebrew word for blood is Dam.
-The Greek word for blood is Aima.
- Jesus' blood is the atonement for our sins and was the perfect sacrifice. In the Old Testament, the priests sacrificed animals for our atonement instead.
-In the New Testament, John 6:53-57, "So Jesus said again, 'I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise that person at the last day. For my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. I live because of the living Father who sent me. In the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me."
-When Jesus presents this idea, he is not talking about cannibalism, but a metaphor for the body of Christ. When we receive the Holy Spirit, that is the seal of approval into the body. In other words, the blood is the Holy Spirit, and the flesh is the word of God.
